STATUTE

Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz

General provisions

1. The Kurt Lewin Center for Psychological Research at Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, hereinafter referred to as "the Center", is an all-university organizational unit pursuing scientific and didactic tasks.
2. The Center’s scope of activity covers the area of the Republic of Poland and scientific circles worldwide.
3. The Center shall have its seat in Bydgoszcz.
4. The Center shall be established, transformed and closed down under the resolution passed by the Senate on the motion tabled by the Rector of Kazimierz Wielki University.
5. The supervisor of the Center shall be the Rector of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, to whom the Director of the Center shall be directly responsible.

Objects

6. The objects of the Center are:

(a) to gather, file, store, draw up and provide access to any documents concerning the life and works of Kurt Lewin, who was born in Mogilno – a land inhabited by a multicultural community;
(b) to gather, store and provide access to any scientific studies on Lewin’s psychology;
(c) to organize symposia, conferences and any other scientific meetings on Lewin’s psychology therein "Lewinianum", an international scientific conference on Lewin’s psychology, held in Bydgoszcz and Mogilno cyclically every three years;
(d) to publish scientific and academic studies concerning the life and scientific output of Kurt Lewin and his successors;
(e) to promote psychology initiated by Kurt Lewin amongst scientists, students of social sciences as well as practitioners;
(f) to conduct research into the application of Lewin’s psychology in solving contemporary problems of social life to be carried out by a research group gathered round the Center.

7. (1) The Center shall pursue its objects in cooperation:

(a) with the local authorities of the town of Mogilno;
(b) with national psychological associations (the Polish Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association, Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Psychologie);
(c) with scientific associations drawing their inspiration from the legacy left behind by Kurt Lewin (the Society for Psychological Study on Social Issues, the International Society for Advancement of Field Theory), and
(d) any other social and scientific institutions.

7. (2) Any joint cooperation with the hereinabove mentioned institutions shall require the Senate’s opinion and an appropriate agreement concluded by the Rector of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz.

Organizational structure

8. The statutory bodies of the Center shall be:

(a) the Executive Committee composed of three members and the Director;
(b) the Scientific Board composed of ten members and the Chairperson;
(c) the General Assembly of the Fellow Members.

9. (1) The Director and the members of the Executive Committee shall be the employees of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz and as members of the administrative organ of the Center, the Executive Committee, they shall remain under the authority of the Rector of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz.

9. (2) The Director of the Executive Committee shall:

(a) coordinate the Center’s activities under the provisions of the Center’s Statute;
(b) present to the Scientific Board and the Rector of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz the annual report on the Center’s activity.

10. (1) The permanent members of the Scientific Board shall be composed of Kurt Lewin’s students, students of his students and/or his close fellow workers, namely Beatrice Wright, Albert Pepitone, Bertram Raven, Robert Kleiner, David Bargal, Bogdan Wojciszke, Zbigniew Zaleski, Lawrence Sherman, Richard Schmuck, Wolfgang Schoenpflug.

10. (2) The elections of the Chairperson of the Scientific Board as well as the byelections to complement the full 10-member composition of the Scientific Board shall be held every three years at "Lewinianum".

10. (3) The Chairperson of the Scientific Board shall coordinate the activities of the Board.

10. (4) The Scientific Board shall:

(a) give factual performance appraisal of the Center, which shall be presented to the General Assembly of the Fellow Members at "Lewinianum";
(b) present such factual performance appraisal of the Center to the Rector of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz at his/her request;
(c) set the guidelines for the Center’s activities;
(d) support the Center’s activities in national and international scientific and social institutions.

10. (5) The Scientific Board shall enjoy the right to adopt the resolutions concerning the Center’s activity, which then shall be approved by the Senate of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz. A motion for the approval of a resolution shall be put forward at the Senate session by the Director of the Center or any member of the Senate authorized by the Director of the Center.

10. (6) The Scientific Board session shall be convened at least once a year by the Executive Committee after its consultation with the Chairperson of the Scientific Board.

11. (1) The General Assembly of the Fellow Members shall be composed of all the members of the Center participating in the cyclical "Lewinianum" conference.

11. (2) The General Assembly of the Fellow Members of the Center shall vote on the resolutions concerning:

(a) the issue of electing the Chairperson of the Scientific Board;
(b) the issue of by-elections to the Scientific Board;
(c) the issue of any amendments to the Statute of the Center.

Membership

12. Psychologists and any other persons interested in the research, application and development of the Kurt Lewin’s theory may become members of the Center.

13. The Center shall be composed of:

(a) honorary members;
(b) founder members;
(c) other members.

14. The first honorary member is Thomas Lewin, nephew of Kurt Lewin.

15. The founder members of the Center are the undersigned of the Center’s founding declaration.

16. The list of the members of the Center shall be compiled by the Executive Committee. The rules of obtaining and losing membership status shall be spelt out in the provisions of the Membership Rules and Regulations.

Property and financial matters

17. The Center may use the movable and immovable property of Kazimierz Wielki University on the terms of use available to the statutory bodies of the Center.

18. The funds available for the statutory activity of the Center shall come from the University’s financial means, grants and donations made to Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz for the purpose of the statutory activity of the Center.

19. Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz shall create a subaccount to gather financial means for the statutory activity of the Center. The Center shall have access to the subaccount of the bank account of Kazimierz Wielki University. The name of the subaccount shall be "Lewin Center".

Transitional provisions

20. The Rector of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz shall appoint the Director and members of the Executive Committee in the Organization.

21. The Director of the Executive Committee of the Center in the Organization shall hold elections of the Chairperson of the Scientific Board amongst the permanent members of the Scientific Board by means of electronic mail.

22. In agreement with the Scientific Board, the Executive Committee in the Organization shall prepare materials of the first "Lewinianum" conference held in 2004 for publication, initiating hereby a publication series.

23. The Director of the Executive Committee and the Chairperson of the Scientific Board shall organize the next "Lewinianum" conference in the year 2007.

Final provisions

24. The Statute of the Center shall become effective as of the date of adopting the resolution establishing the Center by the Senate of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz.

25. Resolutions of the General Assembly of the Fellow Members shall become effective as of the date of their approval of the Senate of Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz.

26. The terms and conditions on which the Center may go into liquidation shall be specified by the Senate in the resolution on its liquidation.
